University of Greenwich – Medway Campus

The University of Greenwich is a place with no limits on where you come from and no limits on what you can do next. For over 130 years we have been providing high-quality education to our students, who come from many walks of life. We support them to achieve their ambitions because of, not despite, their background.

You can’t help but fall in love with our redbrick campus in Chatham Maritime, Kent. Lecture theatres, labs, the library and student halls are all on-site, so you don’t have to venture far for anything. With thousands of students on campus, there’s a lively atmosphere. The Hub building is home to the Students' Union. It’s where you'll find the Deep End, which has places to eat, lots of theme nights and a bar, so it’s easy to make new friends.

Career planning

You’ll get much more than a degree with us. From day one, our focus is on supporting you to achieve your career ambitions. Wherever you plan to go after university, we’ll help you build the workplace skills and experience you need to succeed. You’ll benefit from our career support, including one-to-one sessions, placement and internship opportunities, as well as mentoring from professionals who work in industry. We also offer paid work at the university with flexible hours that fit around your studies.

A University of Greenwich education transforms lives, giving students skills that employers value and the confidence to achieve extraordinary things. We have also gained official acknowledgement for our work, achieving Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023 in recognition of our outstanding performance in student experience and outcomes.

Commuter students

If you are planning to live at home and travel to university for your lectures and classes, there are great transport links and you’re in good company as over a third of our students commute in.

You could be eligible for our Commuter Bursary of up to £1,000 a year. To help you make the very most of student life, Greenwich Students’ Union (GSU) runs events and activities, including daytime ones. So, wherever you live, you’ll always feel at home on campus.

International reach

Our community of students ranges from undergraduate, including Foundation courses, through to taught Master’s and PhDs. The strong international reputation attracts students from around the world, and we currently have students from more than 170 countries studying here. Investment in the campus infrastructure is continuous as our student population thrives.

As a student studying at the Medway campus, you would have full access to the facilities at the Avery Hill and Greenwich Maritime campuses in London, all accessible via the inter-campus coach service.

Student Life

The Medway Campus is home to a range of facilities including cafés and a Student Hub. This transformation of the former Victorian swimming pool is a joint development between the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent and houses the students’ union, as well as providing a social and event space for all students on the campus.

Our campus is also home to the award-winning Drill Hall Library, thought to be the longest library in Europe, with 2.7 miles of shelving storing more than 130,000 books, CDs, DVDs, and journals, 400 computers, and a café. The study zones, separated into quiet, silent and group, make it much easier to get ahead with coursework and the extended opening hours around exam time give students access to vast resources when they need them most.

"My experiences at the University of Greenwich have allowed me to gain

confidence as an independent researcher, equipping me with technical skills

and knowledge required for high-level scientific inquiry"

Deepika Negi, PhD in Neuroscience.
